JUSTIFICATION:
Managing student learning activities can be challenging; therefore, good planning and preparation on my part are essential. Before I begin a lesson, I always run an exercise using the technology before class on exactly what I plan to teach. This way, I am able to focus on student learning, rather than technology set-up or malfunctions that might arise later on. Before the lesson begins, I start of explaining my expectations for student conduct so students know the rules and policies thus minimizing consequences and increasing technology-enhanced learning experiences.
To manage student activities in my lessons, I use a clearly defined lesson plan that includes activities using online resources to encourage students to use technology to enhance thinking skills. Assignments include using the World Wide Web to learn about and/or synthesize student knowledge on mail merge. I don’t allow students to search the internet without a clear purpose in mind so I have the competency goals clearly stated so students know exactly what they are supposed to do. It can be challenging to get student’s full attention when they have a monitor in front of their face. To manage my students attention when I am giving instruction or a demonstration I have all students shut off their monitors so they can concentrate on observing, learning, and staying focused on the actual activity. Finally, I give my students until the end of an activity or end of class to hand in technology related tasks to keep students on task and motivated.
